Maths and Cryptography roles
Based in Cheltenham
Salary £25,738 – £31,452
At GCHQ, we’re experts in cyber security – using cutting-edge technology to combat increasingly sophisticated online threats. Here, every single person plays a vital role in keeping the country safe. As one of our Maths and Cryptography Specialists, you’ll work on exciting, varied projects that you simply won’t find anywhere else.
With the ever-evolving challenges we face, we need inquisitive individuals from all backgrounds, with skills in maths and computer science. It’s about applying both mathematical and technological thinking, to develop new techniques that keep us ahead of the curve. That means using some of Europe’s most powerful computers, being on the pulse of change, and finding innovative ways to solve real, complex problems.
Put the theory you’ve learnt into practice and produce end-to-end solutions to real world problems, in areas such as cryptography and cryptanalysis, network exploitation, cyber security, data science, machine learning and mathematical modelling (to name just a few). Along with strong mathematical and analytical skills, you have a willingness to develop an understanding of technology, computer networks, algorithms and more. Importantly, you communicate effectively, and are keen to develop new and innovative ideas in our unique environment. You have, or expect to gain, at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a subject with substantial mathematical content.
To make sure you’re always being supported and developed, we’ll provide on-the-job training and arrange for you to work with different teams across our world-class, forward-thinking community. Not only that, our flexible working policy means you’ll maintain a healthy work/life balance.
