An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivational team player aspiring to join our committed team, working directly to our Executive Director, and with management and leadership responsibilities.
The Assistant Director supervises the Membership Manager, the Editorial Officer [the production of Mathematics Today], the Conference Officer, and the University Liaison Officers. The Assistant Director shares responsibility for the IT Services Officer. Additionally, the Assistant Director is responsible for a number of activities relating to the Chartered Mathematician and Chartered Scientist designations.
Within this broad remit the following range of skills would be of benefit: management, membership, database, marketing and promotion, magazine publishing, conference organisation, building care, IT, Continuing Professional Development / audit, and university liaison. The successful candidate will need to show competence in several of these areas. An appreciation of mathematics would be beneficial.
The position, which is based in Southend, requires some travel to London and elsewhere in the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
The Assistant Director reports to the Executive Director.

The IMA offers a contribution to either a pension fund of your choice or a contribution to the NEST pension scheme (NEST is the workplace pension set up by the government). In either case, the pension contribution commences after successful completion of probation, or sooner if required by legislation. For your selected pension fund option, an employer contribution of 9% of your salary would be paid into a pension fund of your choice, subject to you agreeing to contribute 1% of your salary to your pension fund, whilst for the Government NEST pension option, contributions would be in line with current scheme terms.
Hours of Work
The normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm, with one hour (unpaid) for lunch.
Place of Work
The position which is normally based in our Southend Office, Catherine Richards House, requires some travel to London and elsewhere in the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
The leave entitlement is 24 days p.a., plus public holidays 8 days p.a. The leave year starts on 1 January and employment for part of the year brings entitlement on a proportional basis. Holidays will be taken by prior arrangement and approval of the Executive Director.
