A strong professional network can add value to our careers in many ways, whether it leads to mentorship opportunities, broadens our knowledge of our field, creates possibilities for collaborative projects, or even helps us to discover job opportunities. However, building a network comes with the daunting task of networking. For many of us it can be difficult to know where to start; it is not always easy to approach someone at a conference, reach out online or start a conversation at an event. Removing these barriers and feeling more confident networking can open new doors for us in our careers.
Join the IMA Early Career Mathematicians Committee for this Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) about networking in the mathematical sciences. In this online event, we will discuss practical skills for networking in academic and professional contexts. We will share our experiences and top tips for making the most out of networking opportunities, and discuss our strategies for overcoming nerves. Whether you are a networking newbie or a seasoned professional, we would love for you to join us and share your perspective, and hopefully we can all learn something from each other!

Final information will be sent out 24 hours before the event.
A Virtual Maths Tea (VMT) is an online event hosted by the Early Career Mathematicians committee where we invite participants to join us for an informal discussion about a topic related to mathematics or the mathematics community. If the topic of this VMT is not for you but you would like to join one in the future, please check the events page for all of our upcoming VMTs.
