Maths Busking

Maths Busking aims to show the public the surprising and fascinating side of mathematics through the medium of street performance.

Maths Busking takes a unique starting point in its fundamental approach to public awareness of mathematics – by thinking about the performance element. Yet it gives equal importance to the mathematics, not compromising the subject for the sake of the performance.

Maths Busking was developed with several outputs: street performance, stage performance, entertainment at educational/scientific events, performer training sessions, teacher development and workshops for young people. In total, more than 150 people signed up for 11 training sessions from March 2010 to August 2011, and the team delivered a total of 34 Maths Busking performance days.

Maths Busking is sponsored by the National HE STEM Programme, the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, the London Mathematical Society and the University of Manchester.
