Are you currently studying towards a mathematical undergraduate degree?
Your result is Student Member

Student Membership is for anyone pursuing a course of study leading to a mathematical qualification. For a heavily discounted price of only £10 per year for Student Members, you will receive over £250 worth of exclusive benefits including: free subscription to the hugely popular bi-monthly magazine Mathematics Today, discounts to conferences and more. Have you completed one of the following:
• A degree in mathematics
• A degree or joint degree in mathematics with another subject
• A degree with a sufficient mathematical component such as would be expected in physics or engineering.
Your result is Affiliate Member

With no formal requirements for entry, this membership grade is open to anyone with a passion and interest in mathematics. Affiliate Members can participate in the Institutes activities without being professionally engaged in mathematics and its applications. As an Affiliate Member you will receive a free subscription to Mathematics Today as well as discounts to conferences and journals, receive regular news and events announcements.

Do you have a minimum of three years’ training or experience since graduation and a position of responsibility involving the application of mathematical knowledge?
Your result is Associate Member

Associate Members are graduate mathematicians, usually within the first three years of their careers. Associate Members are elected on the basis of academic qualifications only.

As an Associate Member you will benefit from the use of the post nominals AMIMA after your name, as well as an exclusive free subscription to Mathematics Today, discounts on conferences and journals and much more.

Do you have a senior professional standing and meet one or more of the following criteria:
• Completion of 7 years’ of research in mathematics and its applications.
• Completion of 10 years’ of work requiring the use of mathematical knowledge and training
• Have you made an outstanding contribution to the development or application of Mathematics?
Your result is Member

As part of our advanced membership category, Members are established career mathematicians with over three years’ post-graduate experience which uses their mathematics training.

As a Member you will benefit from the use of post nominals MIMA, demonstrating your achievements and professional standing as a mathematician, an exclusive free subscription to Mathematics Today and exclusive discounts on journals and conferences. You will also be eligible to apply for Chartered Mathematician (CMath), Chartered Mathematics Teacher (CMathTeach) and Chartered Scientist (CSci).

Your result is Fellow

Fellow is our most advanced membership grade. As a Fellow, you will have a senior professional standing, based on demonstratable achievement and competence in developing or the application of mathematics.

As a Fellow, you will benefit from the use of post nominals FIMA, demonstrating your achievements and professional standing as a mathematician, an exclusive free subscription to Mathematics Today and exclusive discounts on journals and conferences. You will also be eligible to apply for Chartered Mathematician (CMath), Chartered Mathematics Teacher (CMathTeach) and Chartered Scientist (CSci).
