ECM Committee: 2020 Call for self-nominations
The Early-Career Mathematicians’ (ECM) group of the IMA continues to be a great success with activities and conferences being planned each year. The group has grown from strength to strength because of the enthusiasm and commitment of the ECM Committee.
Two vacancies on the ECM Committee are available from February 2021, and we are looking for enthusiastic and committed ECM members to put themselves forward for the committee, and build on the great work that has been achieved so far.
The posts available for election are:
- Vice Chair and Chair Designate;
- Event Leader Designate.
Once elections are complete, the committee has the power to co-opt other people on to the committee. Therefore, we would also be keen to hear from people who would like to contribute in ways that do not fit into one of the above roles. In particular, we are looking for someone who can help to create and co-ordinate the ECM social media content.
If you would like to put yourself forward for the committee, please send the following to the Branches Co-ordinator (these will be used in the election process)¹:
- a short biography
- what role you would like and why

If you would like further information, perhaps about a particular role or the commitment required, please email the Branches Co-ordinator, who will forward your enquiry to the relevant committee member for response.
The deadline for nominations is Sunday, 20 December 2020 at midnight. All Early-Career Mathematicians² who are members of any grade (e.g. Member, Associate Member, Student Member, etc.) of the IMA are eligible, so get your nominations in ASAP!
We follow the IMA Diversity Statement, and we endeavour to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere at the Committee, with a diverse range of participants. Applicants from groups which are under-represented in STEM subjects are particularly encouraged.

¹ By submitting a biography for consideration, you give your consent for it to be used in emails as part of the election process, and in print and on the website should you be successfully elected. Should you be elected a photograph (High-resolution preferred) will also be requested, and used in print and on the website.
² Early-Career Mathematicians are defined as: Mathematicians within fifteen years of graduating from a university mathematics degree, or Members of the IMA who do not have a degree and are within fifteen years of joining the IMA.
