Miss Shamia Sanjania
University of Leicester
Governance Roles :
Early Career Mathematicians Committee Role
As and when required, the ECM Committee may co-opt non-elected members of the ECM group to get involved and help support the development of the group.
Shamia’s personal brand reflects complete passion, positivity and confidence, a personality to influence and stand for change.
She is currently in her second year of a BSc Mathematics degree at the University of Leicester. She also engages in a range of student support activities such as being the STEM Champion, Lead of Diversity and Lead Mentor at her University. Through these roles and holding a further desire to inspire and support younger women into the field of mathematics, she has founded her own platform – Women in Maths.
Her range of involvement makes her very flexible and easy to adapt to different roles as she loves to meet new people and try something new. Other than maths, she has a part time job and really enjoys trying new things, be that paintballing or indoor skydiving, she is always up for a challenge!
From the different roles she has taken on board, she has been involved in organising and hosting multiple community events from lectures and workshops with students of the community to mathematic networking and socialising events. She actively participates in mentoring schemes and her main goal is to provide the support and opportunities of engagement for younger individuals, particularly females, into the field of mathematics. Her profile was also included in WISE’s 1 Million Women in STEM Campaign.
