IMA Vice President with responsibility for Business, Industry and Government 2025

The Council of the IMA is inviting nominations for the above role.

By its Royal Charter the IMA is required to have three Vice Presidents (VPs). These are amongst the seven Honorary Officers specified in the Charter. VPs are members of Council, the Executive Board and, through their membership of Council, are Trustees.

VPs are invited to serve an initial term of two years with the option to agree a further two years in the role, subject to approval by Council until the maximum term is reached.

The Role: This is an exciting opportunity to become an Officer of the IMA and member of Council.  Building on the achievements of our current and previous Vice Presidents with responsibility for Professional Affairs and Industry, you will be part of the strategic development and expansion of our engagement in this area as we implement our new Strategy including:

  • Review of the IMA’s Corporate Affiliate scheme and our links with employers
  • Enabling and recognising achievements of those undertaking mathematics in settings such as business, industry and government
  • Creating a network of industry representatives to connect the IMA membership with our excitng programme of activities
  • Promoting our professional registration routes for mathematicians and data science professionals
  • Building on the early success of the IMA Exponential mentoring platform launched earlier this year
  • Supporting our engagement with partners and stakeholders across the mathematics community, such as the KE Hub and Academy for Mathematical Sciences

Nominees should have established and extensive links to business, industry or government, ideally working in one of these sectors, and experience of operating at a senior / Board level.

Requirements

  • Self-nomination is permitted for this role and must be supported by two members of grade FIMA or above
  • Nominees must be a member of the IMA, having attained the grade of MIMA or above.
  • Nominees should submit a summary not exceeding 200 words, stating their background, their reasons for applying and the relevant skills and experience they can bring to this role.
