Richard III Was My Cousin, a presentation by Rob Eastaway (Director of Maths Inspiration)
Abstract
What’s the fairest way of organising a penalty shootout? What comes next after Giga, Mega and Tera? What’s the chance that two golfers will both get a hole in one? And was Richard III a distant relative of yours? Rob Eastaway is a regular guest on BBC Radio 4’s More or Less programme, and in this talk he runs through the maths behind some of his favourite contributions to the programme.
About the Speaker
Rob Eastaway is an English author who is active in the popularisation of mathematics and was awarded the IMA-LMS Christopher Zeeman Medal for excellence in the promotion of mathematics to the public in 2016. He is best known for his books, including the bestselling Why Do Buses Come in Threes? and Maths for Mums and Dads. Rob is also a former puzzle-writer for New Scientist magazine and he has appeared frequently on BBC Radio 4 and 5 Live. He is the director of Maths Inspiration, a national programme of maths lectures for teenagers which involves some of the UK’s leading maths speakers.
