Symmetry and Computation Workshop and Public Lecture

Workshop

A one-day workshop ‘A Celebration of Symmetry and Computation’ will be held on 15th July 2019 at the University of Kent to celebrate the career of Professor Elizabeth Mansfield. Elizabeth joined the university in 1995 after postdoctoral work at the University of Exeter and graduate studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and the University of Sydney. Elizabeth became the first female mathematician to progress to Professor of Mathematics at the University of Kent.

The workshop will showcase current research that exploits symmetry and group-theoretic methods in pure mathematics, computer science and applied mathematics. The day will finish with the inaugural Noether public lecture by Professor Mansfield ‘On the nature of mathematical joy’.

Registration: The meeting is free for everyone to attend. Please email Clare Dunning (tcd at kent.ac.uk) if you intend to participate.

Venue: School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science, Sibson Building, University of Kent, Canterbury CT2 7FS. Click here for maps and travel directions.

All talks will take place in room Sibson Lecture 3
