The IMA, LMS and RSS are inviting proposals for the 2026/27 Higher Education Teaching and Learning Workshop Series.
Up to four grants of £600 are available to support workshops taking place between April and July 2027. Workshops should be of interest to the wider mathematical sciences community and provide opportunities to share practice, discuss developments and build connections across the sector.
Who Can Submit a Proposal?
Proposals are welcomed from colleagues working within UK higher education institutions.
Proposals should demonstrate how the workshop will benefit the wider mathematical sciences community and encourage the sharing of practice beyond the host institution. Collaborative proposals involving colleagues from multiple institutions are encouraged.
Proposers do not need to be members of the IMA, LMS or RSS. However, proposals submitted by non-members must be countersigned by a member of one of the three societies based at the same institution.
Workshop Topics
Proposals on any aspect of teaching, learning and assessment in mathematics and statistics in higher education will be considered.
For the 2026/27 round, the IMA, LMS and RSS are particularly interested in proposals that explore:
- Teaching, learning and assessment in the mathematical sciences
- Preparing mathematical sciences graduates for AI-enabled futures
- Creating an inclusive student experience for mathematical sciences students
These themes are intended as a guide, and proposals on other topics are also welcome.
Funding
The grant may be used to support reasonable costs associated with running the workshop, such as:
- Refreshments
- Speaker travel and expenses
- Materials and other event-related costs
The three societies will also help to promote successful workshops through their communication channels.

- Proposal deadline: 23:59 on Monday 7 December 2026
- Proposers notified of the outcome: By Friday 12 February 2027
- Workshop dates to be agreed with the IMA by: Friday 12 March 2027
