Learning Analytics: Understanding the data, students and learning

Learning Analytics: Understanding the data, students and learning, a talk by Dr Russell Boyatt (University of Warwick)

Abstract

The pervasive nature of technology in higher education enables the collection of data about students and their activities in online environments.  Learning analytics is the use of this data to understand learners and draws on several fields of research.  The collection, analysis and use of information promises to aid understanding of student learning experiences and improve the learning potential of students.

This talk will examine the current state of learning analytics and the landscape of use within higher education.  We will look at the tools and techniques being applied to learning analytics, and the evidence for impact on learning and teaching.  The talk will also consider the ethical issues that manifest in the use of student data and how this relates to broader issues in society about the use and misuse of data.

Information on parking for visitors to Aston can be found on the university website.

No charge is made to attend meetings. Non-IMA members are welcome.
