1st October 2015, 4:00pm

What a Mathematics Exploratorium might look like and how we can achieve it: the work of MATHSWORLDuk, Professor Margaret Brown (King’s College London)

Abstract

This talk will describe the progress so far of the MATHSWORLDuk project, with some materials and pictures to demonstrate possible contents for an Exploratorium devoted to mathematics, which could attract the general public, especially families and school groups.

The speaker would welcome feedback and ideas both on content and on how we achieve this aim.

The speaker, Margaret Brown, has been a professor of mathematics education at King’s College since 1990, and was head of the School of Education between 1992 and 1996. After a term’s supply teaching in a primary school, she became a secondary mathematics teacher in the 1960s. She then moved into teacher training and research as a lecturer in mathematics education at Chelsea College, which merged with King’s College in 1985.

Venue:  Room C5.1, Ellen Wilkinson Building, School of Education at Manchester University

No charge is made to attend meetings and non-members are welcome.
