Tilting the Classroom: Engaging Students in Large Classes, a talk by Dr Lara Alcock (Mathematics Education Centre, Loughborough University)
Abstract
This talk will cover 18 straightforward practices that I use to promote student engagement in mathematics lectures. These practices can be used independently or together and in larger or smaller classes. I will provide lots of examples and light-touch reference to findings from the psychology of learning. I will also discuss how I have adapted my teaching to cope with online and partially online teaching while, as far as possible, encouraging active student participation and keeping my workload manageable.
This talk will be given remotely, via Zoom. If you wish to register for attendance at this Scottish branch talk, please contact Gemma Reeves, before 1.00pm on the day of the talk, who will provide the required details.
No charge is made to attend meetings. Non-IMA members are welcome.
