What can Evolutionary Computing Do for You?, Prof Xin Yao
Abstract
Evolutionary computation has been around for many years as an active research field. However, its great potentials in real-world applications do not seem to have been fully exploited. This talk will give a few examples where evolutionary computation techniques have been found to be highly useful and perform better than other alternatives. The application areas touched upon include astrophysics, materials modelling, fleet routing and management, bio-informatics, software engineering, digital filter design, and pattern recognition. The primary aim of this talk is to understand the breadth of evolutionary computation applications by sacrificing the technical details of individual studies. However, I would be delighted to go into any of the applications in depth if there is sufficient interest.
