From Google to Gaming, Dr Richard Lissaman
Abstract
Internet search engines and video games are both multi-billion pound global industries. And maths is at the heart of both of them. Google depends on simultaneous equations, while video games require thousands of calculations involving triangles, angles and vectors. In this presentation you’ll find out exactly how these industries use some of the mathematics you learn at school.
Richard Lissaman is Programme Leader of the Further Mathematics Support Programme which works to promote maths and provide opportunities to study it. Richard has a PhD in Algebra, has authored maths textbooks and has been involved in the development of maths video games.
Venue: Kingswood School Theatre, Kingswood School, Bath, BA1 5RG
