Why we cannot live without Probability, Professor Kambiz Farahmand (University of Ulster)
Venue: Dublin City University
Abstract
This talk begins with some historical background of mathematics and the origin of the numbers. We look at the influences of mathematics on other sciences in the past and present. We question the way that we treat mathematics, in particular pure mathematics, today. We conclude with an example of the contribution that Probability Theory is making. The talk is prepared with audience with both fair knowledge of mathematics and no knowledge of mathematics in mind. However, an effort has been made to avoid satisfying none of the possible audience in order to please all.
