Breaking the (Mathematician) Mould: Removing Barriers to Mathematical Belonging through Maths Outreach – a talk given by Robyn Goldsmith at the inaugural IMA Yorkshire Branch event.
Abstract
From writing about the statistical modelling of pop music trends to talking about how maths can help predict the end of TV shows, this talk will cover experiences of maths outreach. By discussing ways to dismantle stereotypes contributing to the gender gap within mathematics, we will discuss lessons learned and how we can all help diversify the view of what it means to be a mathematician.
No charge is made to attend meetings; non-IMA members are welcome.
The talk is coordinated locally by Dr Matt Tranter FIMA.
Venue
Sheffield Hallam University.
