Teacher Subject Specialism Training

In March the Prime Minister announced plans to transform maths and physics teaching in our schools. As part of this, delivery is now underway to upskill 15,000 existing non-specialist maths and physics teachers over the next 5 years.

NCTL is working with 99 lead schools nationally to provide free teacher subject specialism training (TSST) for:

  • non-specialist teachers who could teach mathematics or physics in addition to their main subject
  • teachers who want to retrain as mathematics or physics teachers
  • teachers wishing to return to the profession

The programme launched in July 2015 and there are currently over 2,000 participants engaged with courses across the country. Delivery models can include online learning, classroom based-learning and mentoring.
