Applying Maths : a new technology, some geeky celebrations, one decade-long project and the musical finale, a talk by Chris Smith (Grange Academy, Kilmarnock)
Abstract
Chris Smith’s Strathclyde connection began last millennium…As he returns to his old stomping ground, Chris will consider how seven years at the University equipped him for a career in teaching and beyond (including a technology, launched in 2017, that you might have used which he was involved in creating).
You should expect to hear anecdotes about creative Pi Day celebrations over the years, about a Mathematical labour-of-love that has spanned more than 10 years and at least one geeky number fact.
To finish it all off, Chris will have a Mathematical song everyone is welcome to join in with!
About the Speaker: Chris teaches mathematics at Grange Academy, Kilmarnock and produces a weekly maths newsletter with a circulation of over 2,000. He gave the 2017 keynote speech at the Scottish Mathematical Council’s annual conference. Chris tweets about maths-related topics from @aap03102.
