From transport to energy, a tour of lessons learnt applying mathematics to industrial problems, Kieran Kalair
I will discuss various industrial facing problems I have worked on, covering practical applications of mathematics & data-science on problems in transportation and energy. I will highlight how these problems have prompted new methodological developments & refinements of existing approaches. Broadly, I will discuss applications of anomaly detection, spatial & temporal modelling through point processes, explainable machine learning & AI, and forecasting to meet risk appetites. Throughout, I will highlight how different data sources enable different modelling approaches, and the practical relevance of results. This talk will give an insight into how industrial problems can give rise to original mathematical & data-science research, and how this can then in turn be used to improve our roads, our energy network and beyond.
