Early Career Mathematicians Committee Role: The Engagement Leader’s role is to encourage ECM members to engage more actively with the IMA by upgrading their membership, gaining Chartered designation and engaging with the IMA in their local areas, either by being involved with their local branch or setting one up where no local branch exists. The Engagement Leader also liaises with the IMA University Liaison Officer to encourage ECM support for IMA activities aimed at engaging with university students.
Josue is a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, under the supervision of Hervé Moulin. His research area is game theory and its applications in auctions, but he is also interested in fixed point theorems and its applications to infinite games, and in the communication complexity of matching problems.
He holds an MSc from the Institute for Advanced Studies, Vienna, with a thesis on discrete Vickrey auctions. Both his thesis paper and its defence obtained the highest grade. Before that, he obtained his bachelor’s degree cum laude in Mexico.
Josue is an Associate Member of the IMA and presented his research at the IMA Conference in Game Theory at Oxford in November of 2014, among some other venues like the universities of Vienna and Warsaw.
Josue is passionate about the diffusion of scientific knowledge. He co-organised the 3rd International Workshop on Matching under Preferences and the COST Meeting in Fair Division at Glasgow. He is also a Wikipedia contributor and has been a teaching assistant on several occasions in Mexico, Glasgow, and Vienna.
As Promotions Leader, Josue will promote mathematics and the IMA to people early in their career and promote the activities of the ECM group to the wider IMA.
