Behavioural Data Science, a talk by Ganna Pogrebna (University of Birmingham)
Abstract
Recent advances in artificial intelligence allow us to design new “hybrid” models merging behavioural science and machine learning algorithms. The talk will showcase the mechanism and potential behind such models using several concrete examples. It will also demonstrate additional insights which such models deliver beyond traditional machine learning and usual “nudging” methods for consumer choice and satisfaction, business model innovation, fundraising and service design. Specifically, the talk will show how behavioural data science approach can generate more accurate predictions of consumer behaviour and help to deliver better business outcomes.
About the Speaker
Ganna Pogrebna is a Professor of Behavioural Economics and Data Science at the University of Birmingham and a Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute. She is also a Turing Lead for the University of Birmingham and a Behavioural Data Science Lead at the Alan Turing Institute. Blending behavioural science, computer science, data analytics, engineering, and business model innovation, Ganna helps businesses, charities, cities, and individuals to better understand why they make decisions they make and how they can optimize their behaviour to achieve higher profit, better (cyber)security, more desirable social outcomes, as well as flourish and bolster their well-being.
