Date 10– 12 September 2014
Location Engineers’ House
The IMA is pleased to announce the first conference on Mathematical Modelling of Fluid Systems, taking place at Engineers’ House in September 2014.
As the most versatile medium for transmitting signals and power, fluid (gas or liquid) have wide usage in industry. Fluid systems are used in machine tool applications, vehicle control systems, where high power to weight ratio, accuracy and quick response are required. Fluid systems for industrial processes often involve networks consisting of tanks, pipes, orifices, valves, pumps and other flow devices. It is important to develop a systematic method to mathematically model different types of fluid systems for safe and optimal operations.
Programme
Conference topics include the following and are invited to be presented in oral and poster sessions:
- Analysis and computational methods of fluid systems
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach to engineering systems
- Fluid power systems
- Multiphase flow
- Modelling and design of fluid system components
- Control design methodologies and techniques for fluid systems and applications
- Novel fluid system configurations
- New approaches to system modelling and system design
- Pressure surge
- Hydraulic systems
- Medical applications
Call for Papers
The deadline for abstracts has now passed. The deadline for final papers will be Thursday 31 July 2014.
There will also be trips to Airbus and CFMS available to a limited number of delegates (which will be issued on a first-come-first-served basis).
Airbus is the world’s leading commercial aircraft manufacturer (http://www.airbus.com/). At Filton, over 4000 people are employed in the design office and in business support roles such as procurement, finance and customer service. Core activities at Filton include the design, engineering and support for Airbus wings, fuel systems and landing gear integration. Teams also work on systems, structures, and aerodynamics research, development and test facilities.
The site tour aims to give the delegates a better understanding of the work at Filton, while presenting it in a manner that is as tailored as much as possible to the target audience to allow them to relate.
The tour begins with a corporate presentation, covering Airbus in the UK, products, order numbers, various other interesting figures. The site tour may stop at the following facilities (The number of stops depends on the schedule and availability):
- A380 Landing Gear Test
- Wind Tunnel
- A400M Wing Assembly Line
- Structures Test
- Fuel Test
CFMS is an independent centre for modelling and simulation based at the Bristol & Bath Science Park. The centre combines leading-edge HPC technology; open access and bookable space; secure infrastructure and expertise to enable the demonstration and development of innovative new technologies and processes.
Speaking at the IMA Conference will be the CFMS Chairman, Eur Ing Nick Buckland OBE, an acknowledged expert in the fields of innovation and technology and Fellow of the IMA. Delegates on the tour will be given the opportunity to attend bite-sized executive briefings on the following subjects:
- CFD for Medical Applications
- High Order Accelerated CFD
- HPC for Schools
- Big Data (With live demo)
Further details on both trips and how to book places will be made available shortly.
