Tomorrow’s Mathematicians Today 2023

Programme

The University of Greenwich Maths Centre, in conjunction with The Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), is very pleased to announce the tenth Undergraduate Mathematics Conference Tomorrow’s Mathematicians Today (TMT), which will be held online on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March 2023.

“Everyone was welcoming and friendly, it didn’t feel stressful to present, it was really enjoyable. Saw an amazing selection of talks on all sorts of mathematics. I was inspired by my peers doing research and amazing maths” – delegate at TMT 2022.

NEWS! We are thrilled that Professor Edward Frenkel has agreed to give a keynote talk at TMT2023. Professor Frenkel is a professor of mathematics at University of California, Berkeley and author of the international bestseller Love and Math. His website also includes many videos and writings.

We are delighted that Professor Sarah Hart will give a keynote talk at TMT2023. Sarah is Gresham Professor of Geometry and Professor of Mathematics at Birkbeck University of London, and is also President of the British Society for the History of Mathematics. Her book Once Upon a Prime: The Wondrous Connections Between Mathematics and Literature will be published by Macmillan early in 2023.

Professor Frenkel will deliver the keynote talk on Saturday 11 March and Professor Hart on Sunday 12 March.

This will be a fascinating event which will give participants the opportunity to learn about a wide range of mathematics which has excited their peers. The aim of the conference is to enable final year (and other) undergraduates to give presentations on mathematical topics of their choice. Previous conferences have seen undergraduate speakers from a wide range of universities including Aberdeen, Birkbeck University of London, Cambridge, Exeter, Glasgow, Greenwich, Leeds, Liverpool, London Met, Oxford, Portsmouth, Royal Holloway, Sheffield, St Andrews, Warwick and many others.

Mathematics students will benefit enormously in a number of ways by attending. Those going into research will gain experience of the process of conference submission, while those going into the workplace will gain valuable experience of professional practice and networking to enhance their CVs and career prospects. Speakers will additionally gain evidence of their professional skills. All delegates will gain insights into a wide range of mathematics of potential value in their future careers. It will be a wonderfully enjoyable day of inspiring mathematics.

The IMA magazine Mathematics Today published a report on TMT 2022 in the June 2022 issue. The report on TMT2021 appeared in the June 2021 issue and with kind permission from Mathematics Today this report is available here.
