The IMA is delighted to announce its first event focused on Mathematics in Climate, Environment and Sustainability, and with that to launch its new Special Interest Group in this area.
What is this conference about?
Mathematical applications within Climate, Environment and Sustainability (CES) take varied forms – but in all cases they underpin our world’s understanding of these pressing issues. Marking the launch of IMA’s Special Interest Group on the topic, this event aims to expose some of these applications, and through this to invite discussions on how the mathematical community can best support these efforts.
The event will be divided in two parts. In the morning, it will feature four keynote talks given by emerging and leading experts from academia and industry, with a poster session over lunch. The afternoon will be more interactive, and attendees will be split into groups to discuss the priorities for mathematics in climate, environment and sustainability, followed by priorities for academia, industry and policy and how the SIG can better support mathematics and the mathematical community in their CES endeavours. This will be followed by a panel discussion. The event will end with a (soft) drinks reception to allow for further networking.
Who should attend?
This event is aimed at mathematicians, statisticians, modellers, and those in related disciplines and backgrounds, from all stages of their career across both academia and industry. There will be plenty of time to network, allowing attendees the opportunity to meet people from across the mathematics and CES spectra. Early-career individuals are particularly encouraged to attend.

Registration
Registration is now open and is free to attend. This is a hybrid event with both In Person and Online attendance available. In person attendance is limited to 60 people and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
