Big Data Analytics and its Applications, a talk by Steve King (Rolls-Royce)

Phrases such as Big Data and Cloud Computing are now in everyday use and many people are now accessing cloud environments offered by their broadband service providers to store music and photographs. This talk will offer a personal view of how this technology has evolved over the past 15 years and provide an overview of some of the analytic capability that is used within cloud environments.
About the Speaker: Steve King is a Rolls-Royce Engineering Associate Fellow and EHM Specialist working within the Rolls-Royce Digital organisation. During his career at Rolls-Royce he has held positions within the Measurement Engineering group, Electronics and Measurement Techniques department, Strategic Research Centre, Business Process Improvement Centre, Controls Engineering and System Design Engineering. As EHM Specialist he has interests in the use of data mining and advanced analytical techniques in support of in-service issues. Steve holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a PhD in the application of expert systems for vibration analysis. In addition to being a Chartered Engineer, he is a Fellow member of both the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. He is also a Visiting Professor at Cranfield University.
