Maths is coded in your Genes

Maths is coded in your Genes, a talk by Professor Chris Budd OBE (Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Bath and former Vice-President , Communications, IMA)

Abstract

We live in an information age, with vast amounts of data constantly sent around the world.  This talk will introduce the mathematics of information and explain how data is transmitted and received over vast distances by using carefully designed codes; the work of a young French mathematician in the 19th century plays a vital role in this.  An illustration is how a huge amount of information is encoded in your genes and how maths can make sense of it.

No charge is made to attend meetings; non-IMA members are welcome.
