Abstract:
The British Army’s Intelligence Corps are responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of military intelligence. As the quantity of data available in the modern battlespace continues to rapidly increase, so too does the importance of quickly and accurately analysing that data to support the planning process. From identifying emerging trends to updating prior beliefs based on new data, mathematical concepts underpin almost all of the work of the intelligence analyst. This talk will provide a high-level overview of the different aspects of modern military intelligence, with a focus on the role that mathematics plays in facilitating each of these different functions.
About the speaker:
LCpl Pollock is a military intelligence analyst with 5 years’ experience in the Army Reserve. In his civilian life he’s a senior data scientist working in the retail industry, with a focus on time series analysis and the ethical use of AI. He holds an MSc in Data Science and a BSc in Actuarial Science and Mathematics, and is a member of the Royal Statistical Society.
