When does creativity become creative?

When does creativity become creative?  A talk by Dr Sophie Carr (Bays Consulting and the World’s Most Interesting Mathematician)

Abstract

Mathematics is a creative subject that moves us just as much as poetry, paintings and sculpture.  Just like the arts, sharing and communicating mathematics can be a scary and torturous process.  You can never be entirely sure how your work will be received.  At some point, you just need to summon up the courage to share your work.  But what can help guide the work, the writing and (possibly) give you the courage to share?  It’s the answer to this simple question: What do you care about most?  Getting the numbers “right” or getting the “right” number?  Come along and see how the answer to this question can easily lead to problems and how we can avoid them.

For directions to the venue and travel advice, please consult the map (pdf).

Please note that attendees must register in advance by emailing the organiser, Andy Harrison.  Please advise at the time of registering if you will require a car parking space.  On arrival at the venue, attendees should sign in and will be met at reception.

No charge is made to attend meetings; non-IMA members are welcome.
