We are delighted to welcome Rosalind Azouzi to the role of IMA Executive Director. Rosalind joined us on 4 January 2022 and succeeds David Youdan, who retired from the role in the summer 2021.
Rosalind will introduce herself to members in due course in Mathematics Today. In the meantime, she has provided the following introductory bio:
“Rosalind Azouzi has a longstanding career in professional bodies, having worked for the Royal Aeronautical Society since 2004. As Head of Education, Skills and Diversity, she successfully led the RAeS outreach, skills and D&I activities. These include the alta mentoring programme for women; developing an end point assessment service to support apprenticeships; and devising innovative educational programmes, such as Cool Aeronautics and the Schools Build-a-plane Challenge. Rosalind developed close relationships with schools, colleges and universities, members and employers from across the aerospace and aviation sectors, as part of the AGP Skills Working Group, Aviation Industry Skills Board and Aerospace & Airworthiness Apprenticeships Trailblazer Group, supporting internal boards and committees. Rosalind graduated with BSc French, Economics and International Business from the University of Surrey in 1997 and worked in EFL training, student placements and employability, in France and the UK, before joining the RAeS. She is passionate about the role of education as the catalyst to enabling people from all backgrounds to achieve their potential, and particularly STEM subjects and associated career pathways. She is very excited to join the IMA to support members and staff in delivering its strategic aims and promoting the role of mathematics in meeting new challenges, such as climate change and data science.”
On joining the IMA Rosalind said:
“Following the dedication of staff and members and the successful transition to remote delivery during the pandemic, membership growth and strong performance in journals have continued. These and the fantastic IMA programmes to support careers information; teaching scholarships; registration; sustaining an exciting programme of conferences and events are some of the reasons which make the IMA an exciting organisation to join.
I am keen to see where we can take this work in future and continue to raise the IMA profile among academia, industry, government and the public. Making the most of new platforms and wider initiatives, which fit our objectives and help grow our key activities, creating a more diverse and inclusive culture in which current and future mathematicians can thrive.”
