Outreach
Inspiring Mathematics Through Outreach
Engaging events and hands-on experiences showcase the power and potential of mathematics.
Mathematics is all around us, yet many people are unaware of the variety of opportunities and careers that rely on mathematical skills. Through our outreach activity, the IMA aims to inspire curiosity, demonstrate the real-world impact of mathematics, and encourage more young people to consider studying mathematics beyond school.
We engage with students, teachers, families and the wider public at a range of national STEM events, providing hands-on activities, conversations with mathematicians and opportunities to explore how mathematics is used across different sectors.
The IMA attends several major outreach events each year, including:
- The Big Bang Fair
- Forces in STEM (RAF Museum London)
- Forces in STEM (RAF Museum Midlands)
- Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT)
These events allow us to showcase the breadth and creativity of mathematics, challenge common misconceptions about the subject, and highlight the valuable contribution mathematics makes to society.
Our outreach work forms part of the IMA's wider commitment to supporting mathematics education and promoting the mathematical sciences to future generations.
