Higher Education Teaching and Learning Workshop Series
The Higher Education Teaching and Learning Workshop Series supports the mathematical sciences community in sharing ideas, exploring challenges and exchanging effective practice in higher education teaching and learning.
The series is funded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), the London Mathematical Society (LMS) and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). Through the scheme, grants are awarded to support workshops that bring together colleagues from across the sector to discuss topics related to mathematics and statistics education.
Workshops provide opportunities to share experiences, discuss new approaches to teaching and learning, and build connections across institutions. They cover a wide range of themes and encourage collaboration between colleagues with a shared interest in enhancing the student experience.
Funded workshops are expected to be of interest to the wider mathematical sciences community and to contribute to ongoing discussions about learning, teaching, assessment and student success in higher education.
Funding
Each year, a number of grants are made available to support the delivery of workshops. Funding can be used towards workshop costs such as refreshments, speaker travel and other reasonable expenses associated with running the event.
Workshops are typically organised by colleagues working within UK higher education institutions and take place between April and July.
Previous Workshops
Since its launch, the scheme has supported workshops on a diverse range of topics relating to mathematics and statistics education.
Previous events have explored areas including assessment and feedback, employability, curriculum development, student engagement, inclusive teaching practices and emerging developments affecting the mathematical sciences.
Read reports from previous workshops and learn more about the topics that have been supported through the scheme.
Applications
Applications for the Higher Education Teaching and Learning Workshop Series normally open in the autumn each year.
When the scheme is open for applications, details of the funding round, including eligibility criteria, guidance for applicants and key dates, will be available on a separate call for proposals webpage.
