Play by Numbers, The Maths of Music, a talk by Nicholas Brusby (Rolls-Royce)
Abstract
We are all familiar with the idea of music and different sounds combining to produce either beautiful melodies, or horrendous clashes, but have you ever stopped to ask why? This talk aims to briefly delve into some of the mathematics behind music and answer some of the fundamental questions we have about music and sound. It is aimed at anyone with a curiosity in music and mathematics and assumes only basic mathematical knowledge so to make it open to mathematicians and musicians alike.
No charge is made to attend meetings. Non-IMA members are welcome.
