Student Member
Student Members should, normally, be pursuing a course of study leading to one of the following qualifications:
- a degree in mathematics,
- a degree in mathematics in combination with another subject,
- a joint degree in mathematics with another subject, or
- a degree with a sufficient mathematical component such as would be the case in some physics and engineering programmes.
How to Apply
To apply for Student Member you must supply all the information requested, and indicate your agreement to the declaration. This agreement constitutes a contract to abide by the rules of the Institute. Applications for Student Membership may be accepted by the Membership Manager on behalf of the Membership Committee provided the applicant clearly meets the requirements for the grade. Where it is not clear that the applicant meets the requirements the application is referred to the Institute’s Membership Committee Qualification Sub-Group.Further Information
Please note: Being elected to the Student Member grade does not guarantee automatic entry to the Associate Member (AMIMA) grade. All applications for AMIMA supported by non-accredited degrees require assessment at the time of transfer. Student Members should normally apply for transfer to another grade after not more than seven years in the Student Member grade. Full-time postgraduate students may become or remain AMIMA but pay the Student rate for up to three years.
